Thai-S Korean airline to start operations next month

A joint Thai-South Korean airline is expected to start commercial operations next month, the Bangkok Post reported, citing airline vice-president Pittipol Vannarot.

Crystal Thai Airlines, which has leased one Airbus A320 but targets becoming Thailand's third-largest airline, will initially fly from Bangkok to Incheon and Muan airports in South Korea, the report said.

Pittipol said the airline would acquire an A330-200 through a lease in March, while a second A320 is expected to join the fleet by year-end. Flights between Incheon and Phuket should start in March.

The airline, which is led by Thai businesswoman Manika Sawasdipan, also aims to eventually launch flights to Mumbai and Cochin in India, along with the Philippines, Sri Lanka, Bhutan, and Dubai.

Crystal Thai Airlines has registered capital of US$6.54 million. Its South Korean partners weren't revealed.
