Mediterranean Shipping Company has joined other liner operators in seeking a general rate increase July 1 on Asia-Europe services.
The Geneva-based carrier, which postponed the implementation of a $350 per 20-foot container peak-season surcharge slated for June 1 on Asia-North Europe-Mediterranean trades until further notice, will push its rates up by $500 per TEU.
MSC said the planned increase will apply to all cargo from Asia to ports in North Continent, Scandinavia, Baltic, East/West Mediterranean, Black Sea and North Africa.
Other carriers that plan to hike rates July 1 on Asia-Europe trade lanes include Orient Overseas Container Line, United Arab Shipping, Zim Line, China Shipping Container Lines and Cosco Container Lines.
