NYK, Evergreen, Simatech Join in India Service
NYK Line, Evergreen Line and Simatech Shipping will jointly launch the new Bengal Arabian Service (BAS), connecting key ports in the Indian subcontinent, starting later this month. Four 1,700 20-foot-equivalent unit vessels will be deployed in the regional service, with the first ship scheduled to arrive at Chittagong, Bangladesh, on June 27. The port rotation will be Chittagong; Colombo, Sri Lanka; Karachi, Pakistan; Mundra, India; Colombo; and back to Chittagong. In other trade news, NYK Line has started calling at Kattupalli International Container Terminal, India’s new private facility near Chennai, on a trial basis with its Thailand-Chennai Express (TCX) Service. Kattupalli port, about 16 miles north of Chennai, began commercial operations in April, offering nearly 2,300 feet of berth, a 46-foot draft, 5,000 ground slots and an annual capacity of 1.2 million TEUs in its first phase.
