Three Carriers Form West Africa-Europe VSA

Evergreen Line, Hanjin Shipping and United Arab Shipping Co. are teaming up in a new vessel-sharing agreement that will launch a weekly service at the end of May linking emerging markets in West Africa with major east-west trade lanes via transshipment in Spain.

The three carriers will deploy four ships in a range of 2,800 to 3,000 20-foot-equivalent units each on the joint service, which Evergreen is calling the West Africa Service (WAF).

Hanjin will provide two ships, and Evergreen and UASC will each provide one.

The first sailing is planned from Algeciras on May 30.

The port rotation for the 28-day voyage will be as follows: Algeciras, Lagos, Tema, Abidjan and back to Algeciras.

The service also calls at Tangier and Cotonou, although these two ports are not advertised by Evergreen, according to Alphaliner.

At Hanjin’s terminal in Algeciras, the service connects with the CKYH Alliance's revamped Asia-North Europe (NE 6) service, on which Evergreen has slots as part of the widened CKYH-Evergreen arrangement on the Far East-North Europe trade.
