 Japan-US “open skies’’ pact on October 25
Japan and the United States will sign a landmark “open skies’’ agreement on October 25 to fully liberalise their civil aviation markets, which will take effect immediately, Kyodo News reported.
The first full aviation liberalisation pact for Japan will be signed by Transport Minister Sumio Mabuchi and US Ambassador to Japan John Roos in Tokyo.
In principle, the accord will allow air carriers to freely open routes and select the number of passenger and cargo flights between the countries, at a time when takeoff and landing slots at Narita international airport and operations at Tokyo's Haneda airport are set to expand.
Japan and the US reached a basic agreement in December last year to mutually liberalise their civil aviation markets. Cargonews Asia |
