Hapag-Lloyd Hikes North America-India Rates

Hapag-Lloyd plans to implement general rate increases for cargo shipped from North America to ports in the Indian subcontinent and the Middle East, effective July 1.

Rates from Canada to India and the Middle East will increase by $220 per 20-foot equivalent unit and $275 per 40-foot equivalent unit for dry cargo, and $380 per TEU and $475 per FEU for reefer shipments.

For the trade from Canada to Pakistan, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka, the planned increases will be $240 per TEU and $300 per FEU for dry cargo, and $400 per TEU and $500 per FEU for reefer shipments.

The German carrier also plans to apply a peak-season surcharge on the trade from East Asia and Oceania to the Indian subcontinent. Effective June 15, the planned surcharge will be $150 per TEU.

In related news, Middle East-based Emirates Shipping Line will apply a GRI of $150 per TEU for all cargo from the Far East to the Middle East, effective June 1, followed by a peak-season surcharge of the same amount as of June 15.
