DHL launched a direct less-than-container-load service connecting Cochin, India, to Europe, North America and other markets via the Port of Colombo, Sri Lanka. DHL Global Forwarding said the weekly service, to be operated through its in-house carrier Danmar Lines, will help cut transit times on the route by almost three days. “The launch of the new service is part of DHL's on-going plans to expand its own-operated, weekly guaranteed, LCL services globally. It would boost trading activities between Cochin and the rest of the world, particularly benefiting small and medium enterprises,” the company said in a statement. DHL Global Forwarding operates in India in a joint venture with Mumbai-based Lemuir Group, with offices at all major locations in the country. The local unit, called DHL Lemuir Logistics, earlier launched a similar weekly LCL service from the Port of Nhava Sheva (Jawaharlal Nehru), India's largest container gateway, to the Middle East. |
