DHL launches new LCL services between China and Turkey

DHL has enhanced its connectivity and transit times between China and Turkey with the launch of two weekly LCL services from Shanghai to Izmir and from Ningbo to Istanbul.

Operated by DHL Global Forwarding's in-house carrier, Danmar Lines, the new services cut up to five days off transit times.  With cargo shipped directly from China to Turkey instead of being routed via Hong Kong, shipments will now arrive in Izmir and Istanbul within 25 days and 27 days respectively.

Kelvin Leung, CEO, North Asia Pacific, DHL Global Forwarding, said that Istanbul is one of the most important industrial and economic cities and the biggest port in Turkey, with Izmir in second spot, and DHL has recorded consistent growth in the China-Turkey trade lane.

According to the figures from China's Ministry of Commerce, the China-Turkey trade volume grew from was US$1 billion in 2000 to US$12.57 billion by end-2008.

For the first five months of 2010, trade between China and Turkey totalled US$7.06 billion, a year-on-year increase of 46.3%. Exports from China to Turkey are valued at US$6.17 billion for the same period, up 39.5% year-on-year.
